Signed lower left: Günther.Nmbg / Brlin Otto Günther-Naumburg studied painting at the Berlin Art Academy and later joined the Berlin Artists' Association. He specialized in landscapes and cityscapes and received major public commissions for them, such as for the Berlin House of Representatives. His works somewhat reflect the tendencies of Impressionism with its interest in light effects. The present painting, with the light shimmering through branches and leaves, the moving cloud formation and the free, loose brushstrokes is a characteristic work of this Berlin painter.

A massive, slightly snowcapped tower dominates the view in the silent winter landscape. The surrounding houses are illuminated by the sun. The vibrant surface with its short, thick strokes and the transparent, cold colours remind of the French Impressionism. The painting is in good condition but a bit darkened over time. The frame shows minor traces of age and use. Marked lower right "Otto Günther-Nb". The reverse shows the pencil-written note "Wittenberg". The dimensions are 45 x 34 cm (framed) and 40 x 30 cm (cut out). Otto Günther-Naumburg (1856-1941) Otto Günther-Naumburg was born in 1856 in Naumburg in Saxony-Anhalt. They are grazing on the lush green meadows in front of the impressive rocks of the South Tyrolean Alps nearby the idyllic mountain village Sulden. The painting is in good condition and only has minor paint flakes and craquelure. In the upper left corner is a little spot. The lower right is signed „O. Günther Naumburg." The frame has traces of age and wear. The verso is denoted „Am Suldenbach" (At the Sulden stream). The overall dimensions are 108 x 78 cm (framed) and 94 x 64.5 cm (stretcher frame).
