Ce poinçon était en usage à Saint-Pétersbourg entre 1896 et 1908 Peter Carl Fabergé, connu aussi sous le nom de «Karl Gustavovich Fabergé» (Карл Густавович Фаберже Karl Gustavovič Faberže), né à Saint-Pétersbourg, le 30 mai 1846, était un des plus grands orfèvres russes, très connu aujourd'hui pour ses fameux « oeufs Fabergé », faits dans le style des oeufs de Pâques traditionnels, en utilisant les métaux et les pierres précieuses. Son travail fut particulièrement apprécié par les têtes couronnées européennes et russes. Un des grands moments dans sa carrière fut sa nomination en tant qu'Orfèvre de la Cour impériale par le Tsar Alexandre III. Son atelier fut démantelé après la Révolution de 1917. Carl Fabergé décéda en exil à Genève le 24 septembre 1920. Julius Alexandrovitch Rappoport (1864-1916) était le premier orfèvre de la maison Fabergé. Il se spécialisa dans la fabrication d'objets de grande taille, de figures d'animaux et de services en argent. Il fit son apprentissage à Berlin avec l'orfèvre Scheff et s'établit à Saint-Pétersbourg en 1883, au 65 Jekatarinski Canal avant de rejoindre la maison Fabergé. Les ornements qui figurent sur notre encrier sont à rapprocher de ceux qu'on retrouve sur un cadre conservé dans les collections du Metropolitan Museum of Art à New York. Un encrier similaire, mais plus petit est reproduit dans l'ouvrage d'Ulrich Tillander-Godenhielm, Fabergé, Helsinki, 2008, p. 266. On citera également un autre encrier en argent conservé dans une collection particulière.
