Led Zeppelin Memorabilia

With roots in folk and blues, Led Zeppelin transcended the ‘70s, bringing heavy-metal and the concept of album-oriented rock to the world of music. From 1968 to 1980, its four members – Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham – produced nine studio albums, touring extensively and performing at stadiums and sports arenas across the world. In all, it’s estimated the group has sold between 200 and 300 million records worldwide.

Before Led Zeppelin, guitarist Jimmy Page did session work with popular groups across Britain, including The Who and the Kinks. He joined the Yardbirds, who subsequently dissolved and left behind a touring obligation in Scandinavia. Recruiting Jones, Plant, and Bonham to fulfill the contract, Page founded the New Yardbirds, playing under that identity until a joke amongst musicians brought out the name Led Zeppelin.

For 12 years, the band toured almost non-stop, bringing record numbers of concert goers to their performances. After the accidental death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, the remaining Led Zeppelin members disbanded and began solo careers in music.

Quick Facts

  • One of the most popular songs ever requested on the radio is Led Zeppelin's “Stairway to Heaven,” a song which was also ranked number 31 on “Rolling Stone” magazine’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” compilation
  • The first pressing of the band’s 1969 U.K. debut album had a sleeve cover with “Led Zeppelin” appearing in turquoise lettering. Only about 200 of these were made, and they’re typically valued for over $1000 each
  • A rare 1979 Led Zeppelin t-shirt sold to an Australian buyer on eBay in 2011 for $10,000—the most amount ever paid for a band t-shirt. The t-shirt was originally made to replace backstage passes, and only a small number of them were made
