      JOSEPH-DENIS ODEVAERE (1775-1830) Portrait de dame assise, par tradition familliale, la marquise de Chauvelin Huile sur toile, signée en bas à droite H: 170 x L: 109 cm Ce portrait est probablement le pendant de celui de Bernard-François, Marquis de Chauvelin, (1766-1832), préfet du département de la Lys sous la période napoléonnienne, à présent au Groeningemuseum à Bruges. Propriétaire de l'Abbaye de Citeaux, le marquis de Chauvelin s'y éteind en 1832. Provenance: - Monsieur Robert Chantrell - Par descendance Portrait of a seated lady, by family tradition, the Marquise de Chauvelin Oil on canvas, signed lower right H: 170 x W: 109 cm This portrait is probably the counterpart to that of Bernard-François, Marquis de Chauvelin, (1766-1832), prefect of the Lys department during the Napoleonic period, now in the Groeningemuseum in Bruges. Owner of the Abbaye de Citeaux, the Marquis de Chauvelin died there in 1832. Provenance - Monsieur Robert Chantrell - By descent

      PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION, FRANCE PORTRAIT OF A LADY, SAID TO BE MADAME VIGIER AND HER SON measurements note 81 1/2 by 64 1/2 in.; 207 by 164 cm. signed and dated lower left J. Odevaere/1805 and inscribed on the harp EB oil on canvas PROVENANCE Château de Grand Vaux. NOTE This painting hung in the Grand Salon in the Château de Grand-Vaux situated just outside Paris (see Provenance below) and is depicted in a watercolor by Paul Thomas (see Fig. 1) that was reproduced by J. Buorguignon, "Le Château de Grand-Vaux", in L'Illustration, no. 4523, September 11, 1929, p.529. The château belonged to Pierre Vigier (1760-1817) who, after the Revolution, became the director of the Société des Bains Publics in Paris and amassed a small fortune. With his new found wealth, he was able to purchase the château and the surrounding lands.
