        Est: €3,000 - €4,000

Each mounted to original gilt-edged board, most with photographer's name and title printed below the image on the mount, 2 mounts with photographer's blindstamp below the image on the mount, bound in contemporary bordeaux full leather album with gilt-embossed title and gilt tooling. This very rare and exceptionally well-preserved album comprises views of the battlefields and the destroyed trenches (Düppler Schanzen) around the village Düppel as well as destroyed houses, military troops and cannons after the storming of the fortification during the German-Danish War on April 18, 1864. Like Roger Fenton and Matthew Brady, the photographer C.F. Brandt saw himself confronted with a similar situation when photographing war; photographs could only be taken after the fighting had ended because exposure times were still long. Brandt was an experienced photographer and he participated in the International Photography Exhibition in Berlin in 1865 and received a medal for his exceptional landscapes which measured 8 x 9,5 cm and 16 x 22 cm. - A few prints slightly faded, especially in edges, a few with oxidation mirroring in edges, most with a strong violet brown tone and in very good to excellent condition.
