Description

Images of the German-Danish War. 1864. 6 albumen prints. Circa 17,5 x 21 cm, 10,5 x 17,5 cm and 10 x 8 cm. Each mounted to original board (a few foxing spots, slightly soiled, corners bumped), 3 with photographer's blindstamp and 3 with printed text below the image on the mount.
The images show the Königsthor of Friedericia near the Danish border, a damaged Danish cannon, a large guest house near the battlefield, a close-up view of a large Prussian cannon and two images show the Düppeler Schanze Nr. 4. Rare and well-preserved views of the battlefields and the destroyed trenches (Düppeler Schanzen) around the village Düppel military troops and cannons after the storming of the fortification during the German-Danish War on April 18, 1864. Brandt was an experienced photographer and he participated in the International Photography Exhibition in Berlin in 1865 and received a medal for his exceptional landscapes which measured 8 x 9,5 cm and 16 x 22 cm. - Some with slight foxing spots in sky area, a few surface scuff marks, most with a strong violet brown tone and in very good condition.
