HEILIGER JOHANNES DER TÄUFER Öl auf Holz. 90 x 42 cm. Zu dem Gemälde liegt eine Studie von Frau Dr. Maria Cristina Chiusa vor. Dieses beachtenswerte Holzgemälde ist für den Gesamtkatalog von Jacopo Zanguidi – genannt „il Bertoja“ – durchaus von Bedeutung. Zanguidi arbeitete über viele Jahre hinweg für die Familie Farnese und gehörte, zusammen mit Lelio Orsi, gegen Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts zu den wichtigsten Künstlern des emilianischen Manierismus. Im Zentrum dieses Gemäldes steht die imposant priesterliche, ja fast streng wirkende Figur Johannes des Täufers. Der Heilige wir hier als Eremit in einer kargen, essentiellen Landschaft dargestellt. Man sieht hier nur vereinzelte Sträucher und Grasbüschel im Vordergrund, während Berge den Hintergrund bilden und so an die biblischen Landschaften der judäischen Wüste erinnern. Die Figur des Heiligen füllt fast das gesamte Bild aus; das Format wurde bewusst vertikal gewählt und lässt so an den Flügel eines kleinen Privataltars denken (davon geht auch Maria Cristina Chiusa, eine Expertin für die Werke Zanguidis, in ihrer beiliegenden Studie aus). Der Heilige predigt hier das Wort Gottes und hält hierzu das Buch geöffnet und gut sichtbar in der rechten Hand, damit gläubige Zuhörer oder eben der Betrachter miteinbezogen werden. Das vorliegende Gemälde ähnelt vielen anderen Werken von Bertoja, es sollt hier jedoch genügen, auf einige besonders treffende Beispiele zu verweisen, wie zum Beispiel die Darstellung des Ugolino Rossi in „L’incendi di Vittoria“ (Teil der Fresken im Salone dei Fasti, Rocca di San Secondo), „Mars und Venus“ auf den Gemälden (Öl auf gesso auf Leinwand übertragen), die vormals im Palazzo del Gardino zu sehen waren und sich heute in der Galleria Nazionale in Parma befinden, aber auch viele andere Figuren der Fresken des Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, besonders jedoch „Predigt des Johannes“ in der Sala della Penitenza, an der Bertoja von 1569 bis 1571 arbeitete. A study by Dr Maria Cristina Chiusa is enclosed. This remarkable panel painting is an important addition to the oeuvre of Jacopo Zanguidi, also known as “l Bertoja”. Over many years Zanguidi worked for the Farnese family and, together with Lelio Orsi, was one of the most important artists of Emilian Mannerism towards the end of the 16th century. The figure of the Saint almost fills the entire pictorial space; a vertical format was deliberately chosen and brings to mind the wings of a small private altar (this is confirmed by the Zanguidi expert, Maria Cristina Chiusa, in her enclosed study). The offered painting is similar to many works by Il Bertoja and it is sufficient to name but a few especially relevant examples. These include the depiction of Ugolino Rossi in L'incendi di Vittoria (part of the frescos in the Salone dei Fasti, Rocca di San Secondo), Mars and Venus on the paintings (oil on gesso, transferred to canvas) formerly of the Palazzo del Gardino and now at the Galleria Nazionale in Parma, but also many other figures of the frescos of the Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, especially The Sermon of Saint John in the Sala della Penitenza, that Il Bertoja worked on between 1569 and 1571. The painting is in good overall condition.

Im Zentrum der Darstellung Maria mit dem Kind heller beleuchtet, im abgedunkelten Hintergrund erscheint links in leicht nach vorne gebückter Haltung der Heilige Josef. Rechts oben zwei stehende, jünglingshafte Engelsfiguren mit hochgestellten Flügeln, einer mit gefalteten Händen. Die Farbigkeit sowie der Bildaufbau zeigen deutlich den Stil des Manierismus, beispielsweise in dem betont rosafarbenen Kleid der Maria mit cremegoldenem Kopftuch, das um ihren Hals zieht. Auch die betonte Liegehaltung des Kindes nach links entspricht dem Bildtypus des Manierismus, auch durch die gedrehte Körperhaltung. Expertise: Dem Gemälde ist eine Expertise von Mario di Giampaolo, Florenz, Februar 2003 beigegeben, der das Werk dem genannten Künstler, Schüler des Parmigianino, zuweist.
