Consolidated Glass

Creating a dynamic range of decorative objects, the Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company developed some of the most creative pieces of the 20th century. The result of a merger of Ohio and Pennsylvania producers in 1893, Consolidated glass attracted a following of fans that continues to grow today.

When Consolidated Lamp & Glass Company debuted, their main product lines comprised glass lamps and lampshades. As their success grew, Consolidated expanded into tableware lines as well and also incorporated cutting edge trends in glass design. They debuted glassware with an iridescent finish in the late 19th century that echoed the trends of Tiffany and the Art Nouveau era.

By the early 20th century, Consolidated continued to innovate by responding to the shift toward Art Deco design. Lead designer Reuben Haley created the Martele line that channeled the streamlined sense of René Lalique's pieces. Consolidated's ability to consistently respond to contemporary trends made them an ongoing success. Although they ceased production of their art glass in the late '50s, their pieces are still beloved today.
