He captured his patrons and fellow artists in particular, but also his family, in numerous paintings and drawings. He liked to portray them during everyday activities. His children alone or in pairs, his wife with and without children, self-portraits of the artist with his wife, almost all constellations have survived in his oeuvre. He married his wife Ida in 1880, his six children were born between 1881 and 1893. It is very likely that the small sketch is a group portrait of his children. It is not difficult to imagine all the children gathered for a brief moment at the flat window on a sunny day. The lines are quick, seem almost hectic. Only three faces are indicated, otherwise the artist has to limit himself to the outline of the figures. The children are on the move, which is why some silhouettes have been drawn twice.
