    A fine German silver and silver-gilt canister Mark of Jürgen Richels, Hamburg, date-letter A, circa 1690 Hexafoil and with screw off cover with hinged ring handle, the sides engraved with panels of scrolling acanthus leaves, three panels enclosing an oval cartouche with the figures of a lady next to a fallen tree, a resting gentleman and his dog and a court jester washing his hands, gilt interior fitted with another parcel-gilt cylindrical inside cover with an oval handle, marked on base 16.5 cm. high 744 gr.

    A pair of important German silver canisters Mark of Jurgen Richels, Hamburg, circa 1690 Hexafoil and each with screw off cover with hinged ring handle, the sides engraved with panels of scrolling acanthus leaves, three panels enclosing an oval cartouche, one with the figures of a lady, gentleman and a peasant, the other with landscape scenes of travellers by a lake with buildings above, a sleigh on a frozen river and a ship and a lighthouse, the gilt interiors with plain circular inner covers with plain ring handles, each later engraved beneath the base with the initial 'P', marked on bases 16.5 cm. high 1,498 gr.     Mark of Jürgen Richels, Hamburg, 1664-1698 Cylindrical, on three gilt ball supports, scroll handle, the body and cover chased and embossed with scrolling foliage and flowers against matted ground, plain gilt upper rim, hinged domed cover with laurel band and shaped gilt fluted thumb-piece, the inner rim of the cover with Russian inscription, inside gilding, marked on base 20.5 cm. high 1066 gr. The inscription in old Russian may be translated as: March Moscow, 1740 The Holy Arch bishop of the head church of Tverskoy area presented to Wasili Ivanowitch Wecherin in ever lasting peace Christie's is indebted to Mr Yuri Demenko for the translation.
