A pair of important German silver canisters
Mark of Jurgen Richels, Hamburg, circa 1690
Hexafoil and each with screw off cover with hinged ring handle, the sides engraved with panels of scrolling acanthus leaves, three panels enclosing an oval cartouche, one with the figures of a lady, gentleman and a peasant, the other with landscape scenes of travellers by a lake with buildings above, a sleigh on a frozen river and a ship and a lighthouse, the gilt interiors with plain circular inner covers with plain ring handles, each later engraved beneath the base with the initial 'P', marked on bases
