    Attributed to Henry Pickering (fl.1740-1770) Attributed to Henry Pickering (fl.1740-1770) Portrait of a lady, half-length, in a lace-trimmed grey dress and blue wrap oil on canvas, feigned oval 77 x 63.5cm, in a carved giltwood William Kent frame Condition Report: overall: 100 x 88cm Craquelure and stretcher bar mark upper and lower edge, a couple of whitish marks on surface in corner areas, under uv light, small areas of infilling and retouching evident around the nose, at top of neck, at top of dress. Under uv light, there is also retouching to background especially in the darkest area where the oval is painted; however, this hard to see with naked eye. Well-presented and ready to hang. The surface is very thin and flat due to lining and cleaning; pressed craquelure visible on the flesh-colored areas; clean varnish. Under ultraviolet light: a vertical repaired tear of approximately 12 inches near the right edge and a shorter one right below; further repairs and inpainting below the signature, on the fruit bowl and along the upper edge; fine craquelure filling on face and chest.
