Portrait of Susannah Holt (1710-1765), wife of John Chadwick of Healey, bust-length, in a white dress with a pale blue wrap, feigned oval with identifying inscription (lower right) and dated '1743' below a coat-of-arms (upper left) oil on canvas 293/4 x 251/4 in. (75.6 x 64.1 cm.) PROVENANCE Admiral Chapman, Lyme Regis (+); Christie's, London, 20 March 1931, lot 26, as 'Allan Ramsay' (42 gns. to McDonald). with Newhouse Galleries, New York, by 1932, from whom purchased by Mrs Howard C. Hunt, Richmond, Indiana; By descent to James and Caroline Hunt Phelps, by whom donated to Richmond Art Museum, Richmond, Indiana, 1996; Deacessioned in 2001.
