      Nov. 28, 2022

      PARVANEH ETEMADI (1948)

      Est: €1,500 - €3,500

Untitled (Handkerchief with Apple) (1988) Signed, dated 88 and annotated To Rolf with love lower left Coloured pencil on paper, 34.1 x 49.1 cm Provenance: Acquired from the artist by the present owner Note: Without a doubt, Parvaneh Etemadi is one of Iran's leading female artist and has been so for many years. She employs a relaxed, recusant work style across five decades and has been reinventing herself over and over again throughout her career. Etemadi, who was born in 1948, studied at Tehran University, where she began her career with a preference for constructivism and abstraction based on European art principles at the time, eschewing figurative art. Following her group exhibition at the Ghandriz gallery, Etemadi started the second phase of her artistic practise in 1968, producing works that were a synthesis of the constructivism of her first period with a return to figurative art. Etemadi started the third phase of her artistic practise from 1980 on, which is exemplified by the present lot. In this period, she made a return to the imaginary basement of her grandmother with trunks of old, forgotten outfits and textiles. With her perfect, brilliant technique and a colourful pallet of warm, shinny, harmonious, and balanced colours, she reproduced fine garments and textiles of silk and termeh designed with familiar flowers, fruit, and home utensils in very gorgeous still lives. As can be seen from this work on offer, Etemadi manages to instigate a sense of mystery and sensuality using the simplest of forms. Please note: condition reports and additional photos are available upon request. For more information please visit our website: www.aagauctioneers.com.
