    COWPER (William). The Diverting history of John Gilpin. Paris, Ronald Davis, 1931. Petit in- 8, box bois de rose, composition de fers à cheval au filet doré et d'étriers mosaïqués en gris, se répétant sur quatre bandes verticales sur lesquelles le décor est coupé et décalé par un glissement vertical, un fouet à lanière dessinée par un filet doré traverse l'ensemble, le décor déborde sur l'encadrement intérieur, doublure et gardes de faille moirée fauve, tranches dorées, chemise demi-box, étui (L. Levêque & R. Mondange). Charmant livre, illustré de 35 lithographies en couleurs de J.-E. Laboureur, dont une à pleine page. Tirage à 58 exemplaires, celui-ci un des 55 sur Chine. La suite sur Chine, mentionnée à la justification pour ces exemplaires, n'a pas été tirée. SUBTILE RELIURE DE LOUISE LEVÊQUE, admirablement dorée par R. Mondange.

Condition B+: restored top corners and bottom left corner; repaired tear in top text; time staining in margins; vertical and horizontal folds. A delightful landscape with the Wilge River and distant Drakensberg mountains. Named after Harry Smith, a British Governor in the mid-19th century, this city in South Africa's eastern free state has taken a curious approach to advertising, mixing champagne analogies with tourism.
