Item Overview

Description

ANONYMOUS HARRISMITH. Circa 1930.
40 1/8x25 3/8 inches. William Brown & Davis, Ltd., Durban.
Condition B+: restored top corners and bottom left corner; repaired tear in top text; time staining in margins; vertical and horizontal folds.
A delightful landscape with the Wilge River and distant Drakensberg mountains. Named after Harry Smith, a British Governor in the mid-19th century, this city in South Africa's eastern free state has taken a curious approach to advertising, mixing champagne analogies with tourism.
