Antique Remington Revolvers

Remington is primarily known for its line of shotguns and bolt-action rifles, but at one time, they were one of the premiere revolver companies. Remington is known for three different revolvers: the 1858, 1875, and 1890.

Each Remington revolver was an evolution of the single-action design that utilized the technology at the time. The 1858 was originally a cap-and-ball revolver that was available in .31, .36, or .44 caliber. These models were later convertible to a variety of center fire and rim-fire rounds.

The 1875 and 1890 were both modern center-fire revolvers that use metallic cartridges. These single-action revolvers failed to attract the government contracts the 1858 had achieved. The 1875 and 1890 were moderately successful on the civilian market and had a reputation for quality. Without major contracts for either weapon, Remington moved away from producing new revolvers after the Model 1890.
