Diamond Bands

A band is the oldest ring design in history. Because of its versatility, a lot of people also wear them as everyday jewelry items, often next to a regular or diamond wedding band. Diamonds are a natural choice to combine with bands, and are often set close together to form a "bed" of diamonds in a band – a pave setting. Sometimes this type of setting is combined with a large central stone.

While diamond bands come in a nearly endless variety of metals and settings, gold is among the most popular (both 14K and 18K), as well as silver. The beauty of silver is that you can polish it to make it shine enough to reflect more light into the diamonds, noticeably increasing their fire and scintillation.

Popular diamond band designs range from the classical eternity ring to more modern designs – some people even prefer to get thinner diamond bands and combine several of them on one finger.

Quick Facts

  • Diamond bands with a pave setting are limited to how much smaller or larger they can be adjusted, so keep this in mind when buying a used ring
  • Sometimes several smaller diamonds are set very closely together so that they look like one large diamond, without such a large price tag
  • Yellow and white gold can be used to create two-tone diamond bands that have a casual chic appearance
