Notes

Very important work, one of a few explicit remains from the Deskundologisch Laboratorium (=Expertological Lab), department Sonology: het Fruitorgel (Fruit Organ). [The technical department develops machines that work according to expertological principles, such as the mobile Fruit organ, a fruit modulator with a pre-amplifier that makes it possible to come into direct contact with the sounds produced by the fruit species. Thanks to the mobile Fruit organ, orchards in the Betuwe can emit sound, as can flower bulb fields if desired. The Fruit organ consists of three parts: 1. A set table with fruit; behind each fruit stands a lamp. In each fruit, two metal rods are placed in each fruit, that are connected to 2. A suitcase containing the mastermind. Sticking out of the suitcase are keys, control instruments, a rear-view mirror and a front-view mirror. 3. The fruit sounds are led to a box with amplifiers and speakers on which a quantity of tubes ('pipes') is mounted. Thanks to tubes with IB (Immune-Blue) filters, the amplifiers become purifying organs that spread natural sounds. By pressing a key, the energy of a fruit is conducted to the brain and converted into sound. In addition, the twilight lamp behind the fruit is lit, so that the listener sees what he hears. The player of the organ comes into contact with the public through the rear-view mirror: "It may happen that certain sounds enrapture the public to such an extent that some moderation is required from the operator [...]. Until now, fruit has always been judged by form, weight, colour and taste. Thanks to the Fruit organ, the fruit sound can now also be included in our evaluation pattern". There is a three-tone and a ten-tone version of the Fruit organ". And there is this unparalleled painting that depicts this highlight of Deskundology in detail. The artistic legacy of Magical Amsterdam consists mainly of ideas and ephemeral works on paper. The few larger works are mostly already in public collections. It is with great enthusiasm that we offer this unique oil painting by the forerunner of the movement, all the more so because the subject and execution can not be surpassed.
