Description

Photographer: Eduard Pfeiffer. Individual portraits of the writer and painter Adalbert Stifter and his wife Amalia. Late 1850s. 2 albumen prints mounted to carte-de-viste boards with photographer's name/address on recto/verso of mount, annotated in pencil on mount verso.
During the revolution-ridden years of 1848 - 49, Adalbert Stifter was considered one of the most progressive liberals and was an elector for the National Assembly. Stifter's literary work was strongly criticized by Friedrich Hebbel yet much admired by Friedrich Nietzsche and Karl Kraus. Stifter influenced many German writers such as Theodor Fontane, Theodor Storm, Hermann Hesse and Arnold Stadler. - Slight fading in edges, otherwise in good condition.
