Shan Fan (b. 1959)
Shan Fan was born in the Chinese province Zhejiang. He studied traditional bamboo painting at the Hangzhou Academy. In 1984 he moved to Germany, where he still lives and works, but he also regularly spends long periods in his Chinese homeland. Besides works influenced by European art, Shan Fan also turns repeatedly to Far Eastern art with its slow, almost meditative style of painting. In his series ‘Painting of Slowness’, which he painted over several years, he transfers the traditional ink painting in large-scale oil paintings. (cko)
