One of Shan Fan’s typical bamboo depictions; bamboo symbolizes decency and modesty, honesty and spiritual greatness according to Chinese tradition

Condition:
The painting is in very good condition, showing only the lightest wear from storage.

Shan Fan (b. 1959)
Shan Fan was born in the Chinese province Zhejiang. He studied traditional bamboo painting at the Hangzhou Academy. In 1984 he moved to Germany, where he still lives and works, but he also regularly spends long periods in his Chinese homeland. Besides works influenced by European art, Shan Fan also turns repeatedly to Far Eastern art with its slow, almost meditative style of painting. In his series ‘Painting of Slowness’, which he painted over several years, he transfers the traditional ink painting in large-scale oil paintings. (cko)
