Lot 1202: Rookwood Standard mug + lid, Hawthorne, 1896, 91/

Standard Glaze 9 1/4 inch lidded stein with pewter mount. Matthew Daly has painted a portrait of author Nathaniel Hawthorne in a dextrous manner and the pewter mount has been embellished with the figure of a frog. Dated 1896, marks include the Rookwood logo, shape 820, the signature of the decorator and the notation "Portrait of Nath'l Hawthorne." We'd give this an A, but not a scarlet one.
