Lot 1228: Rookwood Iris vase, thistles, Schmidt, 1910, 614

Fine Iris glaze vase with blue thistles done in 1910 by Carl Schmidt. Finely detailed flowers and stems encircle the vase and, as in the best examples of Schmidt's work, shading at the top of the vase is nearly black, adding strong contrast to the flowers. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date, shape number 614 C, an incised W for white (Iris) glaze and the impressed monogram of the artist. Height 12 1/4 inches. Light, unobtrusive, crazing and minor glaze scratches.
