Offered here is a pair of paintings by Dutch painter Pieter George Westenberg (1791-1873). Each work depicts a landscape view of the German-Dutch border area, on the one hand a village, on the other hand the view of the Duivelsberg, a hill and nature reserve in the Dutch Province of Gelderland near the German border, also known as Wylerberg.

Condition:
The paintings are in good condition with few signs of wear consistent with its age. They show slight craquelure and occasionally small retouching in the treetops and lower center of one of the paintings. Otherwise overall of good impression. The image dimensions are 26.5 x 33 cm each, the frame dimensions 42 x 49 cm each.

Pieter George Westenberg (1791-1873)
Pieter George Westenberg is born in Nijmegen in 1791. He was a student of Jan Hulswit and became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. In 1816-17 he undertakes a journey along the Rhine and educated himself through gallery studies in France and Germany. In 1838 Westenberg settles in Haarlem, where he is appointed director of the ‘Paviljoen Welgelegen’ collection of modern masters. His paintings are nowadays among others to be found in the collections of the Rijksmusseum, Amsterdam, the Gemeente Museum, The Hague and in museums in Haarlem and Rotterdam.
