Item Overview

Description

LAJOS MARTON (1891-1952)
Le Touquet.
Marton, a Hungarian designer, spent most of his career in Budapest. But he worked for a few years in Paris, including a brief stint at the Cassandre-Loupot atelier Alliance Graphique, during which time he produced this Touquet poster. And the influence of the Alliance shows the view of the green is simple stylized form with a patient diminutive caddy awaiting a putt-to-come at the resort on the Channel coast below Boulogne. 'The Le Touquet golf course was opened in 1904. It enjoys a worldwide reputation for its seaside course. Many famous international competitions took place at Le Touquet, the French open tournament among them. In 1976 a player, Vincent Thabalala, a bare foot Bantu created quite a stir when he won the tournament beating all the famous players present. The course is internationally recognized as one of Taylor and Colt's masterpieces' (Golf, p. 17).
