Item Overview

Description

JEAN-RAOUL NAURAC (1878-1932)
Nord-Wagons Lits-P.L.M.
The Paris-Lyon-Mediterranée railway advertises the plush Pullman accommodations on its north-south route with an elegant couple and furnishings in matching rich blue. Despite the countryside speeding by the window, we get a sense of perfect comfort and peace. The Lyons-born Naurac worked in the atelier of Gustave Moreau, a disciple of Matisse and Rouault. Though reckoned among the Fauvres, Naurac was, according to Benezit, 'above all an Indépendant . . . Distinguished colorist, acute sketcher, he excelled at conveying vigorous movement.'
