Notes

Poplar is one of the major sculptural forms created by Stefan Pietryga, and sculptures of the same motive can be found in many streets, parks, museums and private collections around the world. According to the art historian Dietmar Schuth, Pietryga's poplars can be experienced as sacred objects due to the magic of their blue or gold colours and a symbolic line between the earth and the sky, which they represent (Schuth, D. Pietryga 88 - Oktogone und Pappeln. In: Stefan Pietryga, Katalog zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung des Kunstvereins Worms, 2012).
