This lovely bronze is the work of the French sculptor Georges Récipon and was cast by Susse Frères Éditeurs in Paris. It shows a nymph punching a decoration in a plate. She is sitting on a bright alabaster plinth, which rests on a pierced bronze base with lion's head feet. The figure probably illustrates an allegory of the goldsmith art.

On the left foot of the figure is the incised signature, ‘Recipon’. The underside shows the incised foundry mark, ‘Susse Fres Edts Paris’. The bronze is in good condition with slight signs of corrosion to the figure and the base. The overall dimensions, framed, are 14 x 20 x 13 cm.

Georges Récipon (1860-1920)
Georges Récipon was an important French sculptor who was also active as a painter. He was the son of the gold- and silversmith Paul Edmond Récipon (1832-1898). He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Augustin Dumont and exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1879. In 1888, he became a member of the Association des Artists Francais. Récipon primarily illustrated classical motifs. He is known for numerous bronzes in public spaces of Paris, such as the Quadrigas at the Grand Palais or the sculptures of the Pont Alexandre III.
