Georg Curt Bauch (1887-1967)
The artist was born as the son of the Meissen porcelain painter Wilhelm Bauch in Meissen. He first studied at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden as a student of Hugo Spieler and later attended the Academy as a student of Robert Diez. In 1914 Bauch was awarded the Prix de Rome. This was followed by numerous trips to Rome, Palermo, Agrigento, Paris and Copenhagen. In 1917 he built a studio with his own ore foundry in Dresden-Loschwitz. He took part in the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1925. Bauch’s consistent antifascist attitude led to existential problems and he fled to Brione sopra Minusio in 1944. Besides busts, Bauch also created animal sculptures and plaques, as well as fine figural compositions. His works can be admired at the Municipal Museum in Bautzen, the Albertina in Dresden, as well as in Zurich (Secretariat of the President). (cko)
