Offered deep black composition depicts a dramatic scene from the mythological legend of Giant Atlas. As a punishment for his participation in the Titans’ battle with the Olympian gods and after the defeat of the Titans, he has to carry the vaults of heavens in the West of the world. Since Perseus turns him into stone with Medusa’s head, Atlas still carries the firmament today, which is usually portrayed as large, round globe.

Condition:
The sheet bears a crack of 0.6 cm at the lower edge. The upper left edge shows serval distinctly handling creases. The borders are partially toned. The image dimensions are 83.6 x 64.8 cm, while the sheet size measures 106 x 75.5 cm. (nlu)
