Lot 123: Frank Badur (b. 1944), 7811, Oil Painting, Germany, 1978

The large format painting rendered in blue and black reveals a great sensitivity. Badur uses the colors’ elementary design value. In an utterly non-figurative manner they unfold their individual effect and contrast in a harmonious interplay.

Condition:
The oil painting bears smaller signs of wear. At several areas the surface displays craquelure as well as slight scratch marks and occasionally minimal color loss. The dimensions of the canvas measure 120 x 119.5 cm, the dimensions of the frame are 121.5 x 121 cm.

Frank Badur (b. 1944)
Born in Oranienburg near Berlin in 1944, the artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin, from 1965-69 as pupil of Hermann Bachmann. From 1971 onwards, Badur worked in London, in 1973 he moved to a studio in Finland. In 1982 he traveled to the US, where he became a member of the Hand Hollow Foundation. Since 1985 he has been a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. Badur has already received several art awards and scholarships, his paintings are regularly shown in solo or group exhibitions. His works are represented in many international galleries and collections, i.a. at the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin, at the Kassák Múzeum in Budapest, at the Amos Anderson Museum in Helsinki and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
