Elfreda Gertrude Beaumont (1891 - 1987), oil on canvas - 'The Wild Swans', signed and dated 1934, in original oak and gilt frame, 81.5cm diameter, labels verso (believed to have been exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1934). N.B. Beaumont was born in London and studied at Goldsmiths College. Her first work was exhibited in 1906 at the Royal Drawing Society. She also exhibited works at the Royal Academy (1916 - 1941) and the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1941. Some of her works were illustrated in 'Colour' magazine and the 'Illustrated London News'. 'The Wild Swans' was inspired by the fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen about a Princess who rescues her eleven brothers who had been turned into swans by their evil stepmother
