Description

Views of Genoa. Circa 1865. 11 albumen prints. Each circa 27,5 x 20,5 cm and 21,5 x 27 cm. Mounted to original board (traces of use, slightly soiled), 8 with title Vedute di Genova, 2 with photographer's name, title and address printed above/below the image and several annotated in ink on the mount.Celestino Degoix was the court photographer of King Vittorio Emanuele II. His biographical dates are unknown but he is one of the prolific early photographers of pre-revolution Italy. As of 1875 he dedicated himself to scientific photography and became the official photographer for the natural history museum. - Some slightly faded in edges, a few light surface scuff marks and light foxing spots, otherwise in very good condition with strong violet-brown tones. - With: Alfred Noack (1833 - 1895). Moonlit view of the Gulf of Spezia; View of Genoa harbor. 1870s. 2 albumen prints. 21.5 x 27,5 cm. Both mounted to board. - One faded and with some cracklure.
