Signed ‘Tokoudagba Cyprien’ and inscribed ‘Benin Abomey’, as well as ‘Koudohoun’
Dimensions: 102 x 142 cm
Mounted in black wooden frame: 105 x 145,5 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Germany
Tokoudagba’s motives come from the Voodoo world and show a mixture of animals, human hybrids and Beninese symbols

Condition:
The painting is soiled and stained somewhat. The frame is slightly chipped. Otherwise, the condition is good.

Cyprien Tokoudagba (1939-2012)
Born in Benin, Cypbrien Tokoudagba is well recorded for his paintings in the Vodun temples in Benin, Ghana, Togo and Nigeria. He also worked as a restorer at the National Museum of Abomey and the palace of the kings. In addition, he has exhibited internationally, including at the Biennials of Sao Paulo, Dakar and Moscow. He has created sculptures and monuments of cement on the ‘Route of Slaves’ (Route des Esclaves) in Ouidah in Benin. In 1989 he participated in the legendary exhibition ‘Magiciens de la Terre’ at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. (cko)
