Cafe du Vieux Pecheur. ca. 1932.Clearly the Cherbourg tavern to hit when you're in the mood for a Salty Dog, Goubert promotes the Old Fisherman Cafe with cantankerous literalness. It should be noted, however, that isn't the first time that this weathered tar has navigated his way through our auctions, having made a previous appearance in the service of the 4th Cherbourg Exposition-Fair (see PAI-XXVII, 412). Goubert favors us with an artistic rendering so detailed and persuasive that even the factory in the distance takes on the repose of a stately mansion.
