Description

Jewish Sofer. 1950s. Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 17,5 x 18,2 cm. Photographer's stamp and annotated in pencil with layout marks on the verso.
Werner Braun immigrated to Israel in 1946 and settled in Jerusalem where he bought the photography lab Photo Europe which operated during the War of Independence. He fought as a soldier and documented this war with his camera. In 1948 Braun became an independent journalistic photographer and from 1952 to 1998 he was the main photographer of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 1956 he documented the Eichmann trial on behalf of the Government Press Office. He lives in Jerusalem. - Some handling creases, slight edge wear, otherwise in good condition.
