Alex Hanimann (b. 1955)
Artist and co-founder of the Kunsthalle St. Gallen was born in 1955 in Mörschwil in Switzerland. After he trained as a primary school teacher, he studied visual arts on Higher Education. Since 1981 Hanimann has been working as a freelance artist in the mediums of drawing, painting, object art, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, public art and art in architecture. Hanimann’s works have been on display at various exhibitions at home and abroad, such as in 2008 at the Sima Gallery in Nuremberg. Furthermore the artist has been awarded a number of prizes, e.g. in 2003 with the Straubenzeller Kunstpreis and in 2012 with the Art and the City Award of Zurich. Hanimann currently lives in Zurich and works at the Zurich Academy of Arts. (nlu)
