Description

"Wusterhauser Bär" am Grünen Graben (Alter Festungsgraben), Berlin. Late 1850s. Salt print. 10,5 x 18 cm. Flush-mounted to card.
The so-called "Wusterhauser Bär" is the last remaining structure of the Berlin city wall from the 18th century. This early photo from the mid-19th century shows the structure at its original location, am Grünen Graben. - Slightly cropped in upper edge, a few light foxing spots in sky area, otherwise a dark print in excellent condition with a strong reddish-brown tone. - With: Paul W. John. View of ivy-covered Wusterhauser Bär, moved 1893 to the Köllnische Park. 1930s. Vintage gelatin silver print. 15,5 x 11,5 cm. Photographer's stamp and annotated by the photographer in pencil on the verso.
