Ahmed Mater is not only an artist but also works as a trained doctor. In this work the artist focusses on the economic, social and cultural change that Saudi Arabia, like other Gulf States, is experiencing since the beginning of oil export. Therefor he refers also one of his typical medical diagnostic procedures, the x-ray pictures

Condition:
The 5 serigraphs as well as the x-ray picture are in overall very good condition. The cloth-covered clamshell box, too, is in very good condition with occasional faintly visible signs of use. The sheet-sized images measures 80 x 60 cm, the x-ray picture 35.5 x 43 cm. The dimensions of the clamshell box are 85 x 64 x 5 cm.

Ahmed Mater Al-Ziad Aseeri (b. 1979)
Ahmed Mater, born in Abha in south-western Saudi Arabia, is now one of the most influential contemporary artists of his country. In his hometown he founded the Al-Miftaha Arts Village and is, together with his fellow countryman Abdulnasser Gharem and the British artist Stephen Stapleton co-founder of ‘Edge of Arabia’, an internationally renowned platform for cultural exchange and dialogue between the Middle East and the Western world. In his works Ahmed Mater addresses in various mediums, the cultural Islamic heritage of his country in a time of globalization and dramatic change. (fea)
