Offered poster depicts the mysterious vaudeville dancer Talera in flowing, oriental-like clothes and magnificent headdress. The work of the famous poster-lithographer arose after a photograph from Paris Photo Studio of Henri Manuel.

Condition:
The poster bears signs of age and wear. The work is made of 8 jointed sheets and laid down on paper. The sheets are generally toned and soiled due to ageing. Several heavier handling creases can be seen as well as tears, particularly along the edges. Further smaller marginal blemishes are visible. In places small foxing spots, losses and surface defects appear. The image dimensions measure c. 179.5 x 64.5 cm, the sheet dimensions are c. 184 x 70.6 cm.

Adolph Friedländer (1851-1904)
Famed German lithographer of posters Adolph Friedländer was born on 17th April 1851 in Hamburg, where he also died on 7th July 1904. He was first exposed to lithography through his father. In 1865, he moved to Berlin to receive formal training, before travelling via Germany screen printing works three years later. After the death of his father, Friedländer settled in Hamburg and initially concentrated on label printing. His breakthrough with color lithographic posters came in the 1880s. From the mid-1890s, he predominately made posters for circus acts and artists. After establishing his print shop in the 19th century, Friedländer produced almost 10,000 posters for various artists, theatres and vaudeville performers between 1872 and 1935.
