Item Overview

Description

A. ANDRÉAS (1864-1899)
Galerie Laffitte/Exposition Murer.
Andréas created a very different style of poster for another exhibition of the works of Eugène Murer (1845-1906) called the 'Skies of France' (see PAI-XXX, 390), featuring a roughhewn Murer, a few canvases and a monkey. Here, however, he focuses on far more earthly delights for a Murer exhibit being billed as 'Song of the Flowers,' which features not only a profusion of hand-drizzled blossoms, but a raven-tressed woman in full bloom as well. Interestingly, it was Murer who invited Andréas, an illustrator, posterist and journalist, to move to Paris after he met him in Rouen. Sadly, his career met an untimely end when he drowned at the age of thirty-five.
