    Original vintage travel advertising poster To visit Britain's Landmarks you can be sure of Shell for Up Park in Petersfield featuring a great design by an artist Richard Wyndham (1896-1948), featuring an arched building remains on a hill, with trees and fields in the distance, white clouds in the blue sky above. Horizontal. Poor condition, several repaired tears, creasing, paper losses, staining, pinholes, tape marks, trimmed text on top and bottom. Country of issue: UK, designer: Richard Wyndham, size (cm): 60x101, year of printing: 1937.

    lithographic poster, 1937, condition A; not backed, framed (Dimensions: 76cm x 114 cm (30in x 45 in)) (76cm x 114 cm (30in x 45 in)) This poster was part of an advertising campaign series entitled ‘To Visit Britain’s Landmarks, You Can be Sure of Shell’. The series comprised a selection of follies and sometimes unusual attractions, encouraging the public to explore the British countryside Richard Wyndham was a descendant of the Earl of Egremont and was known as a printmaker, writer, illustrator and collector. He was educated at Wellington College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst serving in the army during WWI, winning the Military Cross. He is best known for his landscapes. His commission from Shell portrays Up Park in West Sussex, a Grade 1 listed 17th-century house belonging to the National Trust.

Captain Richard 'Dick' Wyndham (1896-1948) studied under Harold Speed. An exhibition of his paintings was held by Arthur Tooth & Sons, March 22 to April 13, 1933, and a retrospective exhibition of his work was held at Henry Wyndham Fine Art, London in 1993. (1)
