      Henry Whatley (British, 1842-1901) painting. English 19th century painting of a young boy in sailor suit and gentleman with a calm sea in the background. Signed lower right H. Whatley 1894. Titled on tag, The Young Boat Builder. Watercolor and pencil on paper. In good condition. Measures 28.6 inches high x 39.7 inches wide. Original elaborate gilt 19C Victorian frame measures 44 inches high x 55 inches wide. Sold at Christie's, New York October 11, 1994 auction of Nineteenth Century European Paintings, Drawings and Watercolors for $2,200.

      Henry Whatley (British, 1824-1901). A pair of portraits of elegant women comprising of one in watercolor and mixed media on paper laid down on board, which depicts a Romantic woman at waist length standing and turned slightly to the side, wearing drapery that has fallen to expose her porcelain decolletage, with brown hair tied back off her face and falling down her back, and abstract blue painted background forming a halo-like field around her head, the painting being set within an ovular gilt mat, framed approximately 22.5" x 17.75", board size 19" x 13.5", signed lower left "H. Whatley"; and a second painting in watercolor and mixed media on paper depicting a single young beauty with porcelain complexion in red and white striped dress with exposed neck and shoulder, holding a lacey kerchief to her chest and wearing her long wavy brown hair off her face with a red headband as she looks over her left shoulder, with an abstract blue background forming wing-like fields over her back, the painting being set within an ovular gilt mat, with verso of paper having beginning sketches of a figure in pencil and charcoal, apparently unsigned but attributed to Whatley, framed approximately 22.5" x 17 7/8", sheet size approximately 18 3/8" x 13 1/8".
