Maxim Wakultschik (b. 1973) Maxim Wakultschik was born in the Belarusian Minsk, where he attended the Lyceum of Arts. After a stay as a guest student at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he studied there from 1992 to 2000 under Beate Schiff and Jannis Kounellis. Working mostly graphically first, Wakultschik turns increasingly towards reliefs, objects and sculptures from 1994 on. In his works he tries out ways to expand the boundaries of the classical two-dimensional image into objectness, with portrait representing a central theme in his work.
