Signed, Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, and dated Feb 4 1955, on the lower left. Matted and framed. A reclusive outsider artist, Eugene Von Bruenchenhein lived near Milwaukee, and over the course of 40 years produced thousands of paintings and sculptures. The cache of his works was discovered by Ruth De Young Kohler and Russell Bowman representatives of a Milwaukee gallery. They soon made formal arrangements with the family to move the entire body of work, which no one except his wife had seen, into the Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Von Bruenchenhein was a self-taught artist, and a remarkable "outsider artist." This is one of the many photographs of Marie (who was born Evelyn Kalka) taken by the artist in "pin-up" style. She was his principal muse and an enthusiastic participant in his work.
