Original card covers; original photo-illustrated dust-jacket tipped at the flaps, as issued (a very short tear on the back panel); cloth folding box. FIRST EDITION. AN EXCELLENT COPY OF THE VERY RARE, PRE-PUBLICATION PAPERBACK ISSUE. ONE OF 10 OR LESS COPIES. This variant, not recorded in the standard bibliographies, was produced before the hardcover, possibly to generate publicity ahead of publication. Van der Elsken's study of teenage lassitude and quiet rebellion "caused a degree of controversy" upon publication; "it became a model for other books examining the same phenomenon" (The Photobook). The Photobook, vol. I, p.244.
