  • ENDRE VADÁSZ (Szeged 1901 - 1944 Gödöllő)
    Nov. 28, 2024

    ENDRE VADÁSZ (Szeged 1901 - 1944 Gödöllő)

    Est: €1,200 - €2,400

ENDRE VADÁSZ (Szeged 1901 - 1944 Gödöllő) Girl in hungarian costume oil/canvas 90 x 72 cm signed VADÁSZ SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 1200 - 2400 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 1200 The Hungarian artist Endre Vadász studied with Ödön Heller at the Szeged Free Art School from 1918 to 1919. He later studied with Adolf Fényes and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Oszkár Glatz. Other teachers were István Zádor and Viktor Olgyai. In 1926 and 1927 he led a summer academy course in Mohács, where he was influenced by the regional folk costumes. His magical images bear witness to this idyll. At the invitation of Albert Kardos, he moved with his wife Valentin György to Debrecen, where he became a drawing teacher at the Israelite High School. From 1933 to 1935 he painted in Baia Mare. He was a regular participant in the exhibitions of the Munkácsy Guild, the Pál Merse Society in Szinyei and the Ernst Museum, but also in the Venice Biennale, the European and American group exhibitions of the Association of Hungarian Engraving Artists in Oslo, Chicago, London and Cleveland. In the 1920s, Vadász went on a study trip to Italy and, with a scholarship from Nemes Marcell, to Paris. Here he discovered Japanese woodcuts, which strongly influenced his later work. In 1929, he won first prize at the World Exhibition in Barcelona. In 1936 he moved to Budapest. In 1937, the Tamás Gallery organized a retrospective of his works. His engravings, woodcuts and linoleum engravings are famous, but he also created tempera and oil paintings. In 1937, Artúr Elek published an analytical study in "Magyar Művészet" entitled "The Modern Hungarian Graphics" in which he praised Vadász. In 1940, Vadász took part in the exhibition of the “For Hungarian Art” movement on Andrássy út. When he found out that his wife had to move to the Budapest ghetto, the couple committed suicide in the Gödöllő labor camp. György Sándor Gál wrote about Vadász: “Endre Vadász's pictures cannot be assigned to any school. These are the happy dreams of a painter. He was an exceptional talent, a great painter. And a brave man." Retrospectives: 1971, Ferenc Móra Museum in Szeged; 1982, Hungarian National Gallery. Many of Vadász's paintings are in the Déri Museum in Debrecen. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
