DIE VISION DES PROPHETEN EZECHIEL Öl auf Holz. 47 x 71 cm. Links unten signiert. Ungerahmt. In camaieubraun gehaltene alttestamentarische Szene mit hügeliger Landschaft mit in eingegliederten Tempelbauten nahe einem offenem Gewässers. Die Darstellung bezieht sich auf die Bibelstelle Ezechiel 37,1-14, die berichtet, dass Ezechiel (Gott möge kräftigen) die Herrlichkeit Gottes gesehen haben soll bzw. die Vision eines göttlichen Thronwagens hatte. Ezechiel war ein Priester, der mit der ersten Verbannung 597 v. Chr. nach Babylon deportiert wurde und dort von 593 bis um 571 gewirkt hat. (1400831) (13)

Als Maler spezialisierte er sich auf phantastische Landschaften mit Ruinen und Grotten, die in einem pittoresken, exotisch anmutenden Stil ausgeführt sind. Zeichnungen von seiner Hand sind recht selten. Die Protagonisten auf dem vorliegenden Blatt sind in orientalischen Kostümen gekleidet. Der etwas retrospektive Zeichenstil und dekorative Elemente, wie das reich verzierte Ziergefäss links vorne erinnern an die holländische manieristische Zeichenkunst des späten 16.
