LEGER measurements 40 by 49 in. alternate measurements 101.6 by 124.5 cm signed Clifton Tomson Pinxit, titled Altisidora, Winner of the St. Leger 1813 / Nottingham (lower center) oil on canvas PROVENANCE Private Collection, Canada Sale: Christie's, New York, June 8, 1984, lot 76, illustrated NOTE The sorrel filly Altisidora by Dick Andrews out of Mandane had an extraordinary racing career. After her 1813 victory at the St. Leger where she was ridden by J. Jackson, she went on to win a number of races, including a match for 500 guineas at York in 1814. Later that same day, she won another two mile race. In 1815, she won the Great Subscription at York, and the Fitzwilliam stakes in Doncaster.
